Yosemite National Park

Artwork inspired by David Park

Yosemite joins Ahwahneechee homeland, glacial landforms, giant sequoias, climbing history, fire ecology, and a heavily managed visitor system across a park larger than Rhode Island. Yosemite Valley is the famous threshold, not the whole place. Yosemite National Park becomes easier to read when established (1890), area (748,436 acres), and world heritage (1984) are held together rather than treated as disconnected labels.

Use the valley shuttle to read El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome at human scale, then devote another day to Mariposa Grove or Tioga Road if season permits. Reservations, chain controls, fire, smoke, snow, waterfalls, road closures, and parking change quickly; never improvise near swift water or cliff edges.
