Wellfield Botanic Gardens
Twenty-plus garden rooms, ponds, islands, children’s spaces, sculpture, and working groundwater infrastructure make this a designed landscape with an unusually practical foundation.

Artwork inspired by Marie Goth
Wellfield occupies Elkhart municipal well-field land, where gardens had to be designed around infrastructure that helps supply drinking water. More than twenty themed areas now move between formal geometry, wetland edges, children’s exploration, Japanese-influenced composition, native plants, sculpture, and event spaces. Water is therefore both aesthetic center and public utility, not merely a reflecting surface.
Walk the perimeter before choosing favorite rooms so the relationship among ponds, channels, pumps, and planting becomes clear. Seasonal displays and new gardens change the balance, but Island Garden and water views provide a dependable spine. Summer evenings and ticketed events can alter access and atmosphere. Arrive at least thirty minutes before closing; a garden this layered is frustrating as a last-minute dash.
