Wallace District Mining Museum
Ore, machinery, labor, disaster, and town life explain the Coeur d’Alene Mining District; call before visiting because the museum lacks a dependable current website.

Artwork inspired by Romey Stuckart
The museum is a documentary foundation for Wallace's larger mining landscape. Begin with veins and ore bodies, then connect shafts, hoists, mills, rail, capital, and labor to the physical problem of extraction. Union conflict, fire, avalanche, industrial illness, and environmental damage belong in the same story as silver output and mineral specimens.
Regional descriptions support mining artifacts, a short historical film, a mock mine tunnel, and Big Burn interpretation; they do not describe an underground tour. Use maps and photographs here to recognize mine offices, transport links, commercial blocks, and worker neighborhoods outside, then choose any separately ticketed mine attraction with a clearer sense of what it adds.
The domain formerly presented as the museum’s official site now displays unrelated material and has been removed from this card. Call 208-556-1592 before making a special trip and rely on posted museum information rather than old visitor guides.

Quick guide
- Build the story
- Geology, machinery, labor, and risk
- Carry outside
- Use historic maps to read Wallace
Use the museum to decode the mining district
- Start underground conceptually
- Learn how ore bodies dictated shafts, hoists, mills, and transport before focusing on production totals.
- Put people beside machinery
- Read labor organizing, injury, fire, disease, and environmental consequences as part of the same industrial system.
- Distinguish the experience
- The museum has a mock tunnel and film; it is not the separately operated Sierra Silver Mine underground tour.
- Verify the visit
- Conflicting third-party schedules and obsolete prices make a same-day phone call more reliable than a synthesized timetable.
Good to know
The former museum website now contains unrelated gambling material and is intentionally not linked. Wallace has multiple mining attractions with separate operators, locations, tickets, and schedules; never transfer Sierra Silver Mine logistics to this museum.
