USS Midway Museum
The preserved USS Midway combines restored aircraft with bridge, flight deck, engine-room interpretation, and oral histories from sailors.

Artwork inspired by David Park
The preserved USS Midway combines restored aircraft with bridge, flight deck, engine-room interpretation, and oral histories from sailors. Its size makes aviation inseparable from logistics, maintenance, and thousands of ordinary jobs. USS Midway Museum becomes easier to read when commissioned (1945), museum opened (2004), and aircraft (30+ restored) are held together rather than treated as disconnected labels.
Start below decks before the flight deck so the ship’s human and mechanical systems give the aircraft context. Steep ladders, low clearances, heat, and long routes limit access to some spaces; audio interpretation and accessible routes cover only part of the ship.
