Tucson Museum of Art
Modern and contemporary art, Latin American work, Western traditions, and pre-Columbian collections extend from a below-grade main building into historic adobe houses in Tucson’s Presidio district.

Artwork inspired by Ted DeGrazia
TMA is best understood as a campus rather than one building. The modern main galleries hold changing exhibitions and collection selections, while the historic houses preserve different scales and layers of the Presidio neighborhood. Move between them deliberately: Compare how contemporary curators frame the Southwest with how adobe rooms, courtyards, and street alignments embody the city’s Mexican, Indigenous, and U.S. histories.
Collection rotations mean that no single advertised strength is guaranteed on view. Check current exhibitions, choose one historical and one contemporary thread, and leave time for the outdoor sculpture and architecture. The museum restaurant and shop can make the campus feel leisurely, but downtown heat and uneven historic thresholds require practical footwear and a route planned before noon.

Good to know
The collection is not displayed in full, so a website category is not a promise that favorite works will be hanging. First Thursday evening hours and community days change admission and atmosphere. Historic buildings may present tighter thresholds than the main galleries; ask staff for the accessible route.
