Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center
A compact AZA-accredited zoo in Gage Park with rainforest, African, primate, carnivore, and native-conservation experiences.

Artwork inspired by C. A. Seward
Topeka Zoo’s manageable footprint makes repeat observation easier than at a sprawling destination zoo. The indoor tropical rainforest is especially useful during weather extremes, while outdoor habitats change character across seasons.
Check construction and animal notices before following an old map. Pair the zoo with Gage Park only if time and weather allow; both can fill a family day. Repeating a habitat later in the day often reveals more behavior than trying to treat every enclosure as a one-pass checklist.

Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center: rainforest and repeat loop
- Rainforest
- Slow down in the indoor tropical habitat and separate canopy, ground, water, and visitor circulation.
- Repeat loop
- Use the compact footprint to revisit animals after temperature or crowd conditions change.
- Gage Park
- Decide in advance whether adjacent park attractions belong in the same outing or would dilute zoo time.
- Programs
- Use keeper talks to understand husbandry and choice, not to demand visible activity on schedule.
