Toledo Zoo & Aquarium
A pedestrian bridge joins animal habitats and a 178,000-gallon aquarium to an extraordinary cluster of Works Progress Administration buildings from the 1930s.

Artwork inspired by Dominick Labino
Toledo’s zoo architecture is part of the collection. The former Museum of Science, Reptile House, Aquarium, Amphitheatre, and other WPA-era structures embody Depression-era public works in brick, stone, relief, and carefully planned civic space. The renovated aquarium adds large ocean habitats and touch experiences, while ProMedica Museum of Natural History, Arctic Encounter, Africa!, and Tembo Trail expand the story from deep time to living conservation.
Because the zoo straddles Broadway, begin by deciding which side holds your priorities and treat the pedestrian bridge as part of the route, not an afterthought. The aquarium can open later than the grounds on some schedules, and individual habitats close for animal care or weather. Parking is paid in Broadway lots; members may have benefits, but ordinary visitors should not assume parking is included.
