Toledo Museum of Art
European painting, ancient art, American modernism, decorative arts, and a transparent Glass Pavilion make material, light, and making unusually visible across one campus.

Artwork inspired by Dominick Labino
The main building supports a broad art-historical visit, but Toledo becomes most distinctive when the collection is read through materials. Paint handling, carved stone, metalwork, ceramics, textiles, and furniture can be compared with the Glass Pavilion, where historical objects, contemporary studio glass, and working hot-shop demonstrations reveal how heat, gravity, chemistry, and skilled teamwork shape the final surface.
Cross Monroe Street deliberately rather than treating the pavilion as an annex. Its curved glass walls create reflections and apparent overlaps that make looking itself unstable; after a demonstration, return to one historic vessel and reconsider the decisions hidden inside it. Current renovation can limit sections of the main building, so the day’s open-gallery list is essential even though general admission and parking remain free.

Good to know
Renovation is changing access to the main Green Building while the Glass Pavilion, sculpture garden, and selected galleries remain open. Check the current open-gallery notice rather than assuming the complete permanent collection is available.
