The Broad
The Broad’s collection moves from Pop and Conceptual art to large-scale installations, with the building’s veil wrapping public galleries around visible storage.
Artwork inspired by Carlos Almaraz
The Broad’s collection moves from Pop and Conceptual art to large-scale installations, with the building’s veil wrapping public galleries around visible storage. Its greatest strength is proximity: familiar names share rooms with works that complicate the usual canon. Useful scale comes from three specifics: opened, 2015; architects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro; and district, Grand Avenue.
Reserve a collection time, then spend longer with one installation than the photo queue encourages; look through storage windows to understand the building’s logic. General entry is timed even when free, special exhibitions are paid, and Infinity Mirror Room access uses separate same-day or advance procedures.
