Taliesin West
Stone, canvas, concrete, redwood, shifting light, apprentices’ labor, and decades of revision make Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home less a finished masterpiece than a working architectural experiment.

Artwork inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright
Wright established Taliesin West in 1937 as winter home, studio, school, and testing ground. Desert masonry uses local stone faces within concrete, while roofs, glazing, terraces, pools, and circulation changed repeatedly as the Fellowship lived and worked there. Look for decisions that mediate sun, view, wind, performance, privacy, and communal labor rather than searching only for signature furniture.
There is no casual property access: Every visitor needs a tour or program ticket. The core audio tour and longer guided options cover different spaces, and none makes the steep, gravelly campus fully accessible. Read the exact route before purchasing, reserve ahead, wear stable shoes, and bring sun protection because tours move repeatedly between interior and exterior.

Good to know
Taliesin West is not open for drop-in wandering, and sold-out tours cannot accommodate visitors who arrive without tickets. Every route includes uneven outdoor movement; the steep portable ramps are not equivalent to a modern accessible path. Select the tour by spaces and terrain, not just duration.
