Sun Valley Museum of Art
A non-collecting museum uses tightly argued exhibitions, talks, films, and community projects to connect contemporary art with life in central Idaho.

Artwork inspired by James Castle
SVMoA is best understood as a producing institution rather than a vault of permanent treasures. Exhibitions are organized around themes and often combine artists, media, lectures, performances, and educational projects. Read the introductory premise first, because the relationship among works may matter more than any single object.
The gallery is compact and can be excellent or nearly empty during installation. Check exhibition dates and the event calendar before driving into Ketchum, then give the show enough time for comparison instead of using it as a five-minute downtown stop. Admission is often free, which makes a second visit during the same exhibition practical.
