South County Museum
Blacksmithing, printing, farming, textiles, boats, and domestic collections animate Rhode Island’s South County through demonstrations and compact exhibit buildings.

Artwork inspired by Maxwell Mays
The museum occupies part of the former Canonchet estate and interprets rural and coastal work rather than one famous household. A working forge, print shop, carriage collection, farm animals, and maritime material reveal how skills, seasons, and local economies overlapped.
This is a seasonal, demonstration-led museum, so the event calendar matters as much as opening hours. Ask which shops are active that day, wear shoes for mixed outdoor surfaces, and leave time for the surrounding park landscape. Static buildings alone are only half the experience. Printed sheets, forged hardware, and farm tools connect separate buildings through materials that circulated across the region.
