Sagamore Hill National Historic Site
Read the Summer White House as a family residence, political stage, and coastal landscape.

Artwork inspired by William Merritt Chase
Sagamore Hill was Theodore Roosevelt's family home in Oyster Bay and a working Summer White House. The shingled house feels domestic despite the international attention once focused on its porch. A guided interior visit adds rooms and possessions to the public story; Old Orchard Museum and paths toward the water widen the view beyond presidential biography. The family's private retreat and public platform shared one property.
Grounds and parking are free, but entering the house requires an advance timed tour ticket. Tours generally run Thursday through Sunday, with frequency changing by season and staffing. Adult admission is $15; discounts are available. Arrive at the front door on time: late visitors cannot join an in-progress tour. The grounds remain an option when interior tickets are unavailable.
