Roger Williams Park Zoo
Elephants, giraffes, red pandas, rainforest animals, farm species, and conservation programs fill a walkable zoo organized around distinct habitat regions.

Artwork inspired by Nancy Elizabeth Prophet
Founded in 1872, Roger Williams Park Zoo is among the country’s oldest zoos but now frames animals through conservation and modern habitat design. The strongest visit compares movement, enrichment, and environmental adaptation rather than rushing toward a checklist of charismatic species.
Buy dated tickets before peak weekends, check keeper talks and construction, and plan the loop around hills and weather. Animals can choose private areas, so visibility is never guaranteed. The zoo ticket does not include the park’s botanical center, museum, carousel, or seasonal events. Older park fabric and newer habitats also reveal how zoological display and visitor expectations have changed over time.
