Pima Air & Space Museum
Hundreds of aircraft fill six hangars and an immense desert field, connecting engineering, military history, commercial flight, restoration work, and the people who built and flew them.

Artwork inspired by Harwood Steiger
Pima’s outdoor field is not overflow; it is the museum’s defining experience. Aircraft can be compared at human scale—wing sweep, intake placement, landing gear, cargo volume, and material weathering become obvious when several generations stand together. Begin with the main hangar timeline, then choose one military, one commercial, and one experimental aircraft to study closely outside.
Heat and distance determine the quality of a visit. Arrive near opening, cover the outdoor rows before the pavement radiates midday heat, and return indoors for space, presidential, or restoration-focused galleries. Tram availability changes and is not a substitute for planning. The adjacent Davis–Monthan “Boneyard” is an active military installation and is not casually accessible from the museum.

- Opening question
- Use the main hangar timeline before entering the aircraft field.
- Orient
- Choose three airframes from different eras and inspect their engineering.
- Evidence to test
- Look for cover the outdoor collection before heat and glare peak.
- Conditions check
- Choose do not confuse the museum with access to the military Boneyard.
Good to know
Shade is limited among the outdoor aircraft and distances are substantial; bring water, sun protection, and a mobility plan even in cooler months. The museum and Titan Missile Museum are sister institutions but roughly a forty-minute drive apart, so combining them requires timed Titan reservations and an early start.
