Phoenix Art Museum
Latin American, Western American, Asian, European, contemporary, fashion, and photography collections reward a selective route through Arizona's largest art museum.

Artwork inspired by Philip C. Curtis
Phoenix Art Museum is broad enough that attempting every wing can flatten the visit. Choose two collection areas—perhaps Latin American and Western American art, or fashion and contemporary work—then use a temporary exhibition to test how the museum reframes landscape, identity, collecting, and migration.
The live operating picture matters as much as the map. The James K. Ballinger Wing is temporarily closed for infrastructure work, including the Art of the Americas, Art of Europe, and Thorne Rooms; despite future exhibition dates, the museum has not published a firm reopening day. More than 94 percent of the building is reported open, but plan around the closure until the operator removes its notice.

Choose a route before the building chooses for you
- Anchor
- Begin with one collection tied closely to the region, then compare it with a collection made elsewhere.
- Context
- Read labels for how objects reached Phoenix and how artists interpreted land, identity, and modernity.
- Temporary
- Use one changing exhibition for slower looking instead of adding another permanent wing to the checklist.
- Closure
- Confirm the Ballinger Wing notice and any timed installation availability on the day of your visit.
Good to know
Wing and gallery availability can change during infrastructure work or exhibition installation. Check the active-gallery list before traveling for one collection, and expect pay-what-you-wish evenings and First Friday to be busier than regular weekday mornings.
