Ohiopyle State Park
The Youghiogheny River cuts a dramatic gorge through Ohiopyle, with easy falls views, strenuous trails, and renowned whitewater in one park.

Artwork inspired by George Hetzel
Ohiopyle is built around the Youghiogheny River rather than one scenic stop. Ohiopyle Falls is an orientation point near the visitor center; Ferncliff Peninsula offers a quieter walk among old-growth trees and river views. The Great Allegheny Passage crosses the park on former rail grade, offering an easier outing than the steep gorge trails. The river's ledges and current explain its whitewater reputation.
Choose the day by your experience. A short visit can combine the accessible falls overlook and Ferncliff; a longer one can add Cucumber Falls, cycling, or an outfitted rafting trip. The Lower Yough is serious moving water, and private boaters have launch rules. Download the map before arriving: cell service varies, and the park's roads and trailheads spread beyond the village.
