Newfields
Newfields joins the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Lilly House and gardens, seasonal installations, and a 100-acre art-and-nature park into a visit with several distinct rhythms.

Artwork inspired by William Forsyth
Newfields is best understood as a campus, not simply an art museum with a garden attached. Inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art, collections move across periods and continents; outside, the restored Lilly House, formal gardens, contemporary commissions, and Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park make landscape design part of the cultural argument. Each zone asks for a different speed and kind of attention.
Do not attempt every component in a short visit. Pair one concentrated museum route with one outdoor route, then leave time for the transition between them. The strongest comparisons happen across boundaries: a material or motif seen in a gallery may reappear in a garden room, historic interior, or contemporary work outdoors. Seasonal installations can alter access and atmosphere, so the day’s map matters more than a generic must-see list.

Good to know
The museum and gardens open Sunday–Wednesday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Thursday–Saturday 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; the art-and-nature park is generally open dawn to dusk. Paid admission covers the core campus, with special exhibitions or events sometimes priced separately. Surface and garage parking are normally free. The campus is large, so visitors with mobility needs should consult the accessibility map and borrow a wheelchair or rollator if useful.
