Museum of Utah
Utah’s new state history museum brings more than nine hundred objects into four galleries about becoming, building, connecting, and inspiring a complicated state.

Artwork inspired by Florence Ware
Opened in 2026, the museum is the first institution designed to tell Utah’s statewide history in one continuous public setting. Becoming Utah, Building Utah, Connecting Utah, and Inspiring Utah organize more than nine hundred objects without pretending that settlement, industry, migration, Tribal sovereignty, religion, and statehood form one uncomplicated story.
Begin with an object whose meaning changed over time—such as a flag, tool, garment, or vehicle—and follow how the gallery uses individual evidence to widen the narrative. The Mormon Meteor III land-speed racer is immediately spectacular, but quieter material can reveal whose labor and experience older state histories omitted.

Good to know
This new museum has no reliable public ticket action or complete holiday calendar, so “open daily” should not be treated as a holiday guarantee. Grand-opening crowd and stroller rules were event-specific and are not confirmed as permanent policy. Visit before the Capitol to carry the state’s social history into its monuments and murals.
