Lake Blanche Trail
The trail rises from shaded Big Cottonwood Canyon to Lake Blanche beneath Sundial Peak, gaining nearly three thousand feet in under four miles.

Artwork inspired by LeConte Stewart
After a short approach from Mill B South, the Lake Blanche trail climbs steadily through forest and open slopes to a high basin containing Blanche, Florence, and Lillian. Sundial Peak dominates the view, while old reservoir structures recall the watershed’s engineered history.
Elevation gain, sun exposure, snow, and a long descent make this a strenuous outing. Carry water, traction when warranted, and a layer for mountain weather. Big Cottonwood Canyon is a protected watershed, so dogs and domestic animals are prohibited.

Good to know
Lake Blanche is a watershed destination rather than a swimming lake, and the Sundial makes the basin feel closer than it is. Expect a sustained climb, protect the shoreline, and turn around early when thunderclouds build over the Wasatch.
