Intrepid Museum
Trace sea, air, and space history on an actual Hudson River aircraft carrier.

Artwork inspired by Reginald Marsh
The Intrepid Museum uses the preserved aircraft carrier as its largest exhibit. Walk the flight deck among aircraft, then descend to see how thousands worked in constrained spaces. The Space Shuttle Pavilion holds Enterprise, a prototype orbiter, while submarine Growler offers a much tighter Cold War perspective. Each vessel tells a different story about engineering, risk, and daily life.
Plan a route before boarding. General admission includes Intrepid, Growler, and the shuttle pavilion, but the Concorde needs a separate guided-tour ticket. Growler's narrow hatches and steep ladders may rule out entry for some visitors; the carrier and pavilion have different accessibility provisions. Allow two to three hours, with final entry an hour before closing.

Quick guide
- Choose the sequence
- Visit the flight deck, interior decks, shuttle pavilion, and Growler as separate experiences.
- Check Growler access
- The submarine's constricted ladders and hatches may not work for every visitor.
Know before you go
- Start on deck
- Use the aircraft lineup to read the carrier's changing missions.
- Go below
- Compare hangar and living spaces to the open flight deck.
- Meet Enterprise
- Separate the test orbiter's role from later operational shuttle flights.
- Enter Growler if able
- Cold War missile-submarine life had far less room to move.
Good to know
The map opens the museum's verified listing at Pier 86, not the neighboring public pier. Concorde access is a separate tour; Growler can close early.
