The broad grade follows the 1931 railroad bed that carried equipment and materials from Boulder City toward the dam. Cut slopes, concrete plugs, tunnel portals, and changing lake views turn an easy-looking path into a readable construction landscape.
Start from the official trailhead and bring a light for shadowed tunnels, though the route is not a cave. Summer heat can close connecting routes and offers little shade; bicycles share the grade, and the full out-and-back distance is longer than the first tunnel suggests.
