Hamilton Falls Natural Area
A powerful waterfall exposes the danger of polished bedrock and hidden hydraulics

Artwork inspired by William Morris Hunt
A powerful waterfall exposes the danger of polished bedrock and hidden hydraulics Hamilton Falls drops through chutes and pools in a forested natural area reached by trail from Jamaica State Park or local roads. The upper pools look inviting but have caused repeated fatalities because current, smooth rock, and confined outlets remove control.
Approach by trail, use established viewpoints, and keep the entire visit on dry, stable ground away from upper pools. Do not swim, wade, or slide at the falls. Access roads and trails may be muddy, icy, or poorly suited to low-clearance vehicles.
