Gunpowder Falls State Park — Hammerman Area
The Hammerman Area is Gunpowder Falls State Park’s tidal beach and picnic gateway, with short trails and paddling on the river.

Artwork inspired by Joyce J. Scott
The name Gunpowder Falls can mislead first-time visitors to Hammerman. This section is a broad day-use beach on the tidal Gunpowder River, with picnic pavilions, short walks, and seasonal paddling facilities—not a waterfall viewpoint. It is the park’s most straightforward family beach arrival and can be busy on warm weekends.
Choose Hammerman deliberately because Gunpowder Falls State Park has widely separated areas with very different terrain. Summer entry charges by person; outside the peak season, the fee changes to a per-vehicle basis. Peak-season weekends and holidays may require an advance vehicle reservation. Bring a beach plan, check swimming conditions, and allow time to leave the crowded sand for the reeds and riverbank paths.
