Gold Strike Canyon descends through boulders and several steep rope-assisted drops to hot pools and the Colorado River. The route’s reward can hide its risk: polished rock, heat, flash floods, waterborne pathogens, and a strenuous climb back are all consequential.
The NPS closes the trail seasonally for extreme heat. Wear shoes that grip wet rock, carry all drinking water, never submerge your head in hot springs, and do not rely on damaged or missing ropes; turn around before any obstacle you cannot reverse safely.
