Gilcrease Museum

A nationally important collection of art and archives of the Americas is preparing to welcome visitors inside a completely new Tulsa museum.

Gilcrease Museum

Artwork inspired by Woody Crumbo

Gilcrease holds vast art, archival, and anthropological collections connected to the Americas, assembled by Muscogee Nation citizen Thomas Gilcrease. Its older building closed for replacement, making current public access and reopening information time-sensitive.

The main museum remains closed while exhibitions are installed; limited Helmerich Center programs follow separate schedules. Once the new museum opens, follow one document–artwork connection to see how archival evidence changes visual interpretation.

A strong future route will connect Thomas Gilcrease’s collecting with the art and archives of the Americas rather than treating each object as an isolated highlight. Confirm the public opening before traveling, then allow two to four hours so there is time to read a few objects closely and understand the new building and campus.
