Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science

Art galleries, regional history, hands-on science, a planetarium, and a preserved train make one Ohio River museum unusually broad without losing its local center.

Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science

Artwork inspired by William Edouard Scott

The Evansville Museum rewards comparison across disciplines. Regional objects explain the Ohio River economy and everyday life; art galleries shift attention to visual choices; the Transportation Center preserves a steam locomotive, club car, and caboose; the immersive theater turns toward astronomy and film. The breadth works because the museum repeatedly returns to how a Midwestern river city observes, makes, moves, and remembers.

Check the planetarium schedule on arrival because one show is included with regular admission but capacity and times are finite. Then give the train more than a quick exterior glance: its railcars turn transportation history into scale, texture, and labor. Families can alternate object-rich galleries with science interactives. The first Friday’s free admission changes both price and crowd pattern.
