Echo Canyon Trail on Camelback Mountain
Railings, boulder steps, desert exposure, and rapid elevation gain climb Camelback Mountain directly above central Phoenix.

Artwork inspired by Ed Mell
Echo Canyon is a short but strenuous route with handrails, high steps, polished rock, crowd pressure, and almost continuous climbing. Its urban setting can disguise real mountain risk; heat illness and falls occur here regularly.
Arrive only when a legal parking space is available, carry water even in cool weather, and turn back before the railed scramble if footing or exposure is uncomfortable. Dogs are prohibited when heat restrictions apply and are poor companions on the steepest sections.
