Delicate Arch Trail
A cairn-marked climb crosses open sandstone, passes Wolfe Ranch and Ute rock markings, then rounds a narrow ledge into the immense natural amphitheater beneath Delicate Arch.

Artwork inspired by V. Douglas Snow
The maintained trail is 3 miles round trip with about 480 feet of gain, but those numbers understate its exposure. Much of the route crosses treeless slickrock marked by cairns, and the final approach follows a rock ledge before revealing the arch. Carry more water than the short mileage suggests and turn back for lightning, dangerous heat, or ice.
The route begins in a cultural landscape, not empty wilderness. Wolfe Ranch records a late nineteenth-century homestead, while nearby Ute rock markings reflect Indigenous use and movement through this country. Stay on the established route, avoid biological soil crust, never touch rock imagery, and do not climb or walk on any arch.

Good to know
Sunset is the most crowded period, and the 157-space Wolfe Ranch lot can remain full for hours. There is no drinking water at the trailhead. A separate lower viewpoint offers a nearly level 100-yard walk and a distant view of the arch; the hiking trail itself is steep, exposed, and not wheelchair accessible.
