Columbus Museum of Art

American and European modernism, Columbus artists, photography, decorative arts, and participatory spaces reward connections between collection history, neighborhood memory, and making.

Columbus Museum of Art

Artwork inspired by Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson

The museum’s modernist strengths include European and American painting, photography, and decorative arts, but Columbus is not merely the address around them. Works by George Bellows, Elijah Pierce, Aminah Robinson, and other Ohio artists connect formal experimentation to migration, neighborhoods, faith, labor, and memory. The Center for Creativity treats making and interpretation as legitimate forms of looking rather than a children’s detour.

The separate Pizzuti site in the Short North is part of the institution but not another wing of the Broad Street building; it has different hours, admission, and parking. For a first visit, stay at the main museum, choose a modernist thread, and add one Columbus artist whose biography changes the city outside. Thursday night and Sunday remove general admission, but special exhibitions can remain separately ticketed.

Quick guide

Choose the main site first
Broad Street and Pizzuti are separate destinations, not adjacent wings.
Follow one local voice
Let a Columbus artist reshape how you understand the surrounding city.

How to connect collection and city

Find Columbus early
Begin with one locally rooted artist before entering broader modernist galleries.
Make a comparison
Use medium, neighborhood, migration, or memory to connect two works across collections.
Create after looking
Treat hands-on space as a chance to test an artistic decision you noticed.
Separate Pizzuti
Plan the Short North location as another stop with its own hours and ticket.

Good to know

CMA at The Pizzuti is a separate Short North building about two miles from the main museum. Its ticket, schedule, and parking do not automatically match Broad Street, so selecting “Columbus Museum of Art” should not be treated as a two-building promise.
