The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
Five floors of science, world cultures, dinosaurs, art, and play make the world’s largest children’s museum a rare place where preschoolers and adults can stay equally absorbed.

Artwork inspired by Robert Indiana
This is less a single museum than a vertical neighborhood of experiences. Dinosphere pairs dramatic environments with real fossils and working science; Beyond Spaceship Earth connects artifacts to the people and decisions behind spaceflight; galleries on world cultures, trains, pop culture, and childhood history reward visitors who slow down instead of racing between spectacles. The historic carousel supplies a quieter counterpoint to the building’s large-scale attractions.
A successful visit begins with priorities, not a floor-by-floor completion plan. Choose two anchor galleries, reserve energy for one shared family experience, and treat everything else as discovery. Families with mixed ages can divide briefly and regroup because a toddler’s need for physical play and an older child’s appetite for evidence do not always peak in the same room. The outdoor Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience adds substantial time when it is in season.

- Leave a return reason
- Stop while curiosity is still high and note one floor or gallery for a future visit rather than exhausting everyone.
