Cape Perpetua Scenic Area

Artwork inspired by Lucinda Parker

Cape Perpetua rises from a coast where temperate rainforest, basalt headland, intertidal shelves, and powerful surf meet within a small area. The high overlook explains the sweep of the shoreline, while lower stops reveal tide pools, the Spouting Horn, and wave-cut features that cannot be understood safely from the road.

Build the visit around tide and weather: use the headland in rough conditions and descend only when the intertidal zone is suitable. Trails cross steep, wet forest as well as exposed shore. Keep off algae-slick rock, never turn your back on the ocean, and remain outside protected tide pools while looking for anemones, mussels, and seabirds.
