Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge
Shoals, forest, rare fish and mussels, and spectacular Cahaba lilies protect a segment of one of North America’s most biodiverse rivers.

Artwork inspired by Mose Tolliver
The lily bloom is one visible part of a much larger system. Swift, oxygenated shoals support aquatic species found in few other places, while upstream sediment, sewage, dams, and development reach the refuge through moving water.
Lily viewing peaks seasonally and requires safe behavior around strong current and slick rock. Roads can be rough, services are minimal, and collecting any plant or animal is prohibited.
