Bullock Texas State History Museum
Three floors of artifacts, film, archaeology, migration, conflict, industry, and popular culture make the museum most useful when visitors question whose Texas is being narrated.

Artwork inspired by Frank Reaugh
The museum moves from Indigenous homelands and European colonization through revolution, statehood, war, migration, oil, technology, and modern identity. The seventeenth-century La Belle shipwreck materials offer a concrete archaeological anchor, but they also open harder questions about French ambition, Native nations, and how museums turn imperial failure into a state origin story.
Upper galleries become more thematic and exuberant, especially around ranching, energy, music, sports, and space. Keep one question active—who worked, who profited, who was displaced, and who recorded the story—so iconic objects do not become detached symbols. The theater can be a useful rest, but film tickets and schedules should be planned rather than discovered late.
