Botanical Garden of the Ozarks
A compact community garden combines native plants, herbs, roses, sensory beds, seasonal displays, and Arkansas’s only butterfly house.

Artwork inspired by George Dombek
The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks arranges twelve themed gardens around a short central loop beside Lake Fayetteville. Rather than overwhelming scale, its strength is comparison: visitors can move quickly among native plants, herbs, vegetables, Japanese-influenced design, sensory planting, roses, and habitat features, then enter the seasonal butterfly house when it is operating.
Check both bloom and butterfly-house schedules before buying admission, because the garden changes sharply by season. Walk the full loop once, then return to the rooms that are performing best that day. Families should watch for education programs and pond edges; plant-focused visitors will get more from labels and small ecological relationships than from treating the site as a background for photographs.

Make the visit count
- Check seasonal features
- Confirm whether the butterfly house and any program important to your visit are operating; neither should be assumed from a general admission listing.
- Compare garden rooms
- Notice how soil, enclosure, water, and plant choice alter pollinator activity and microclimate over surprisingly short distances.
- Use the labels
- Record both common and scientific names for plants that interest you, then note their light, moisture, and habitat context before considering them for a home garden.
- Respect working beds
- Remain on paths, keep children clear of pond edges, and give staff and volunteers room to maintain living collections.
Good to know
The Butterfly House can close for an entire renewal season, and bloom conditions shift quickly in Arkansas heat. Confirm that exhibit and the day’s final admission time before making either central to a late visit.
