Ausable Chasm
Follow the carved Ausable River on trails above a dramatic Adirondack sandstone gorge.

Artwork inspired by Rockwell Kent
Ausable Chasm is a privately operated sandstone gorge cut by the Ausable River near Lake Champlain. The basic visit uses self-guided trails and bridges to reveal different angles on the walls and water. Water levels and weather can change which activities run.
The operator advertises about five miles of trails. Arrive well before closing, since sales and activity departures end earlier than the park does. Basic trail admission is enough to see the gorge; buy a package only if you want the additional river experience. Wear grippy shoes, check age and height restrictions for add-ons, and follow the operator's current conditions rather than assuming a float is always available.
