Angel Rocks Trail
The loop climbs through spruce and birch to weathered rock towers, open ridges, and Interior views.

Artwork inspired by Claire Fejes
Granite tors rise above boreal forest in the Chena River highlands. The loop climbs through spruce and birch to weathered rock towers, open ridges, and Interior views. It is a manageable day route that still exposes hikers to wind, fire weather, and sudden temperature change.
Walk the loop counterclockwise for a gradual forest approach, then spend time reading jointed granite before descending the steeper side. Rock scrambling is optional but falls are real; winter travel and the longer Angel Rocks–Chena Hot Springs route require different preparation. A slower reading of granite tors makes boreal forest more intelligible and keeps the visit anchored in this particular Alaska setting.
